About EPM

EPM is a “multi-Latino” business group headquartered in Medellin, Colombia with sister companies in Panama, Guatemala, El Salvador, Chile and Mexico that provides electricity, natural gas, drinking water and other services to more than 20 million people.

The Challenge

In 2014, the Board of Directors of EPM approved the sourcing and acquisition of a data analytics software tool to reduce and control non-technical losses of energy and water. The specific objectives outlined in the Request for Proposal (RFP) for their National Energy subsidiaries included:

  • Reducing the current non-technical loss index from 9.25% to 8.00%, while recovering 183 GWh in lost resources in a period not exceeding five years.
  • Provide useable information for integration into the development and refinement of educational programs, consumer loyalty programs and other incentives to allow easier access for customers to pay for energy and water services.
  • Support the change in overall culture defining “pay for use” as the legal and fairer model for usage of electricity, gas and water.
  • Garner new intelligence in support of determining additional ROI gains through future investments in Smart Grid technologies.

The Solution

EPM selected a partnership proposal in May, 2015 from CHOICE Revenue Intelligence™ and SAP Colombia as their solution to reduce and control non-technical losses of energy and water.
